Like many early 20th-century homes, this Glastonbury property was originally designed with a small, enclosed kitchen tucked away at the back of the house. The homeowners wanted a modern house extension that would bring the kitchen into the heart of the home and create a bright, open-plan living space ideal for modern family life.
To achieve this, we removed internal walls and introduced a rear single-storey extension that opens directly onto the garden. The new layout connects the kitchen, dining, and living areas seamlessly, enhancing natural flow and making the most of the available space.
Large bi-folding doors now frame stunning garden views and look out towards the iconic Glastonbury Tor, while a rooflight floods the interior with natural light. The extension’s cedar cladding contrasts beautifully with the existing rendered façade and will weather gracefully over time to a soft, silvery tone — a perfect blend of modern design and traditional character.
